About Dr. Ziegenbein
I am a Rheumatologist by training, with special interest in all things fibromyalgia. I started practicing Rheumatology in August 2007 in Northern Wisconsin, after completing both general rheumatology and lupus fellowships in Boston, MA and Baltimore, MD, respectively.
I was born and raised in Slovakia (the east half of the former Czechoslovakia). I am an US citizen now but I will never "cease" to be a Slovak. Slovakia is in my blood, in my “bones” and I have an accent, too ☺
I have always been drawn to and fascinated by Fibromyalgia. Caring for women with this affliction has not been always rewarding, however. Sometimes the pain would stick around no matter (seemingly) what we did. Other times, the pain got better, but the reprieve would not last.
Compounding frustrations of my patients was my own journey with fibromyalgia. I have had myofascial /fibromyalgia type of pain in my upper and mid back since 2010 or so. I have tried many remedies including PT and massage with inconsistent long term relief.
After years of searching, I figured out how to help myself and women with fibromyalgia more consistently. This realization came after immersing myself in multiple courses and books about healing pain, and experiencing transient resolution of my own back pain in September 2021.
I want to share my knowledge with and guide as many women with fibromyalgia as humanely possible in my lifetime. The end goal is for all of us, women with fibromyalgia, lead lives we love and enjoy, filled with less (or no) pain.

Dear Dr. Z: Just a quick note to tell you how much I appreciate your care and concern for me as your patient. You are very wise, smart, knowledgeable, and thoughtful in providing care to me and dealing with an uncertain diagnosis. To say I will miss you is an understatement, but I wish you great happiness in your personal life too. You have been one of my very special “earth” angels and I am forever grateful!
Judy H (former patient, WI).
Dear Dr. Ziegenbein: you literally gave me my life back when I became your patient in March 2020. Your medical expertise and empathetic nature truly helped me to understand and accept my auto-immune disease. I am sorry to see you leave Wausau, WI but sincerely wish you well on your move to Massachusetts.
Joleen D. (former patient, WI)
My Dr told me that i would feel good the next day, she was right. I am an old dog and have been treated by many doctors but I was extremely impressed. My Dr was exceptionally outstanding in her bedside manor and how my examination was presented, well appreciated doc.
